Each
Northern Heart bookmark and sticker is made by
hand using the finest paper and cardstock. I try
to use recycled paper whenever I can.
My origami crane bookmarks are remarkably
durable. They are made from 3” pieces of paper,
so are fairly compact. I use embroidery floss
that is bull-hitched to the cardstock tag, and
add glue to make sure the knot doesn’t pull
through the crane. I am not gentle with my
books, and therefore, pretty rough on my
bookmarks. Through being stacked, tossed, or
dumped in the bottom of a backpack, my cranes
have been through it all. Each tag is signed by
me, and can be personalized in calligraphy with
a name or phrase.
My first stickers were hand cut hearts made from
scraps of origami and cold press paper that were
then run through a hand-cranked Xyron sticker
machine. Since then, a lot of the ideas for my
stickers have come from my cards. I like lots of
color and have reproduced my card “corner”
designs, like a single punched heart, leaf,
“glitter tree” or kanji symbol (“good luck”),
into stickers. I have also color copied my
pastels and pencil sketches and converted them
into stickers.
As I have so many designs, I offer only a sample
here, encouraging you to use your imagination
and come up with a color, theme, or pattern for
me to customize for you.
